MANILA, Philippines — Alex Eala secured a prize money of €15,471 or P1.08 million for reaching the WTA 500 Berlin Open second round (round of 16) in Germany Wednesday evening in Manila.
Defeating world No. 33 Donna Vekic for the third time, 7-5, 6-4 in the first round (round of 32), No. 35 Eala advanced to the second round to face No. 2 Elena Rybakina likely on Thursday.
Seeded No. 2 in the tourney, Rybakina received a first-round bye.
