- He said that he escorted Mr Bashir away and warned his sister after the former journalist made a series of ludicrous claims.
- An independent inquiry later confirmed that Mr Bashir used deceitful methods and breached BBC editorial conduct to obtain the interview.
- Spencer said that he apologised to his sister for wasting her time, but deeply regrets that his warnings failed to see Mr Bashir off.
