EC: No by-election for Subang parliamentary seat

THERE will be no by-election (by-election) for the P.104 Subang Parliamentary Constituency following the unexpected vacancy of the seat.

Election Commission (EC) Chairman, Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun, said they received an official notification regarding the status of the vacancy from the Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat, Tan Sri Dr Johari Abdul, via a letter dated 11 August 2026.

The vacancy follows the decision of Subang Member of Parliament from PKR, Wong Chen, who resigned from his position effective 10 August 2026.

The resignation letter was submitted to the Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat on 5 August 2026.

According to Ramlan, the vacancy of the seat was declared under Article 51 of the Federal Constitution.

"Based on Article 54 (1) of the Federal Constitution, the Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat has informed the EC that there is no need to fill the contingency vacancy.

"In line with this, there will be no by-election for the P.104 Subang Parliamentary Constituency," he said. – August 12, 2026
