KUALA LUMPUR – The Election Commission (EC) announced that no by-election would be held for the Subang parliamentary constituency following the resignation of its incumbent, Wong Chen, as the Member of Parliament.

EC chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun said this was based on Article 54(1) of the Federal Constitution, as Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Dr Johari Abdul had informed the EC that there was no need to fill the vacancy.

"No by-election for the P.104 Subang Parliamentary Constituency will be held,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He added that the EC had received notification from Johari via a letter dated Aug 11 regarding the status of the casual vacancy of the Subang parliamentary seat after it was declared vacant under Article 51 of the Federal Constitution.

Earlier, Johari confirmed at the special meeting of the Dewan Rakyat on Aug 11 that he had officially received Wong Chen's resignation notice on Aug 10. – BERNAMA
