EC sets midnight target for Negeri Sembilan state election results

THE Election Commission (EC) is aiming to announce the complete results of the 16th Negeri Sembilan state election before midnight on Saturday, with initial results expected to emerge from around 10pm.

EC chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun said the target could be achieved as preparations for polling day had been completed, including the inspection and verification of ballot boxes at all polling centres across the state.

He said the EC had personally reviewed the ballot box checking process at Dewan Perdana Tampin on Friday, while confirming that all polling centres throughout Negeri Sembilan were ready for voters.

“So far, all polling centres are ready to receive voters tomorrow from 8am. Today, we inspected the ballot boxes, and the same process has also been carried out at all polling centres.

“We will try to release the earliest results at around 10pm, and our target is for the full results to be announced before midnight,” he told reporters at Dewan Perdana Tampin on Friday.

Ramlan said the EC had not received any official complaints involving allegations of bribery or corruption during the campaign period.

He said any information related to election offences involving corruption should be reported directly to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) or the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), as such matters fall under the jurisdiction of the respective agencies.

“EC only receives complaints related to the election process and minor election offences, which are addressed from time to time,” he said.

A total of 867,151 registered voters are eligible to vote in the Negeri Sembilan state election, including 7,391 postal voters and 859,760 ordinary voters.

The election will involve 401 polling centres with 1,668 voting channels operating from 8am to 6pm, supported by 15,344 election personnel.

Throughout the campaign period, SPR recorded 267 election offences. - July 31, 2026
