Kota Kinabalu: Energy Commission of Sabah (ECoS) Chief Executive Officer Datuk Abdul Nasser Abdul Wahid has filed a police report over an article that allegedly defames him.
The article titled “Sabah Government Urged to Terminate ECoS CEO, Approved Libaran IPP Belonging to Muhyiddin’s In-Law Without Cabinet Approval” was published by Sabahkini2 on April 17.
Among the allegations is that he approved the Libaran Independent Power Producer project, owned by the former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s in-law, without obtaining approval from the State Cabinet.
The police report was made to request a detailed investigation into the article’s author, the operators of the Sabahkini2 portal, and any parties involved in spreading this information.
It is also to urge legal action under Section 500 (criminal defamation) and Section 504 of the Penal Code, as well as the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
Thirdly, it is to consider civil action for losses and reputational damage suffered by Abdul Nasser and ECoS.
“The allegations presented in the article are not only defamatory but also potentially undermine public trust in energy governance in the State,” according to a statement.
Abdul Nasser also expressed his full willingness to cooperate in any investigation into the case.
