Kota Kinabalu: The Energy Commission of Sabah (ECoS) has launched two online applications, the ECoS Energy Information System (EEISy) and Talk2ECoS, recently.

EEISy is an online platform specifically designed to facilitate the registration process as an ECoS Electrical Energy Manager (EREEM) and ECoS Energy Service Company (EESCO) for energy efficiency-related services.

“This system not only enhances operational efficiency but also ensures the orderly management and easy access of data for all parties involved,” said ECoS Chief Executive Officer Datuk Abdul Nasser Abdul Wahid at the EEISy and Talk2ECoS online system launch ceremony held at Hyatt Centric Kota Kinabalu here.

The ceremony was officiated by ECoS Chairman Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili.

The same information will also assist in ECoS’s subsequent initiative, the development of the Sabah Energy Efficiency Action Plan (SEEAP), which is one of the strategies in the Sabah Energy Roadmap and Masterplan 2040 in the near future.

“EESCO plays a vital role in the implementation of energy audits and providing consultancy services to commercial and industrial premises towards more efficient electrical energy management. ECoS aims to register at least 10 EESCOs this year to provide effective services to nearly 70 premises requiring their services in Sabah so far,” he added.

The launch of Talk2ECOS is an initiative introduced by ECoS to establish a feedback management platform that includes complaints, inquiries, and suggestions.

By introducing this platform, ECoS will be able to monitor any information received for further action, especially those that are still pending and require attention at the level of the energy supply service licence holders in Sabah.

The ceremony also witnessed ECoS’ recognition of 16 Registered ECoS Electric Energy Managers (EREEM) who passed the examination conducted on Sept 5.

This recognition is crucial to ensure that EREEMs meet the qualification requirements and are capable of fulfilling their responsibilities as set out under the Efficient Electric Energy Management Regulations (EMEER) 2024.

“Today, we celebrate not only the recognition of EREEMs but also reaffirm our commitment to more efficient energy use. The expertise of these professionals is vital for the development of more sustainable energy in the state of Sabah, ensuring that energy management standards comply with industry standards,” said Nasser.

He added that this initiative aligns with ECoS’ efforts to ensure that all electric energy managers and Certified Energy Managers (CEM) serving or planning to serve in Sabah must be registered with ECoS by Jan 2, 2025.

EREEMs function as qualified and registered individuals providing consultancy services and continuous monitoring to commercial and industrial premises companies to comply with the prevailing legal requirements in Sabah.

According to EMEER 2024, any company with installations receiving or generating electric energy equal to or exceeding 3 million kWh for any period not exceeding six consecutive months is required to appoint an EREEM to meet these legal requirements.

Non-compliance with legislation is an offence under Regulation 22 of the EMEER 2024, which, upon conviction, may result in a fine not exceeding RM20,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year, or both.
