Kota Kinabalu: The Energy Commission of Sabah (ECoS) has launched its Khidmat Budi Tenaga Lestari Programme with the handover of a 12.2kWp Solar Photovoltaic (PV) System to Bukit Harapan.
The system was sponsored and installed by Easy Solar Sdn Bhd under the SELCO-PV Sabah 2.0 Programme and is expected to help reduce Bukit Harapan’s electricity costs while supporting the use of clean and sustainable energy.
ECoS Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Corporate Services), Ernie Zainie, said the initiative reflects the commission’s commitment to ensuring Sabah’s energy transition delivers tangible benefits to communities.
She said sustainable energy development should go hand in hand with community well-being, adding that the programme was established to encourage initiatives that promote clean energy adoption while creating a lasting positive impact.
Ernie noted that Bukit Harapan is the first beneficiary of the programme.
Founded by Datuk Anne John P. Arulnasalam, better known as “Mama Anne”, Bukit Harapan has long served vulnerable communities in Sabah. Anne, together with trustee Remy Martin Gunsalam, attended the handover ceremony.
Easy Solar Director Dave Ang Jin Leong said the company chose to support Bukit Harapan because of its longstanding role in caring for and serving vulnerable members of the community.
He added that lower electricity costs would enable more resources to be channelled towards the welfare and needs of the home’s residents.
The programme builds on ECoS’ ongoing Khidmat Budi initiatives, which include electrical wiring rehabilitation projects for flood-affected houses of worship, educational programmes under ECoS TVET Angkat, and support for orphanages and children with special needs throughout Sabah.
