Anthony Joshua’s future remains uncertain as the heavyweight division braces for a pivotal few weeks.

The former world champion is expected to face Tyson Fury next, but that bout now depends on Fury’s upcoming fight.

Fury is scheduled to face Arslanbek Makhmudov on 11 April.

If the 37-year-old Briton loses or steps away, Joshua may need to pivot quickly towards alternative opponents.

Eddie Hearn has already identified two potential routes for Joshua should Fury no longer be available.

“Fabio Wardley for the World Heavyweight title, Daniel Dubois rematch… I mean, there’s loads of fights out there. But Fury’s the biggest fight in the sport still, and we hope he wins,” the manager said.

Wardley currently holds the WBO heavyweight title and represents a direct world title opportunity.

A rematch with Dubois would also carry weight after their previous meeting ended with AJ being knocked out.

Both Wardley and Dubois are scheduled to fight each other on 9 May.

Joshua has only recently returned to training following a difficult period.

He was involved in a car crash in Nigeria in December that tragically killed two of his friends.

The incident left his immediate future in doubt before his return to the gym.

Oleksandr Usyk partnership offers fresh direction

Joshua has also been working alongside Oleksandr Usyk in a notable training partnership.

Usyk is one of boxing’s elite names, holding multiple world titles and maintaining a 24-0 professional record.

The Ukrainian has defeated both Joshua and Tyson Fury twice, cementing his status at the top.

He is now preparing for a crossover bout against kickboxing star Rico Verhoeven.

For Joshua, the link-up provides elite-level preparation and renewed focus.

It could prove crucial as he waits for clarity on his next opponent.
