Riding high on Punjab securing top positions in national education rankings, the state education department has asked all government schools to discuss the advancements and improvements in the sector at the Mega Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTM) to be conducted on May 30.
The Mega PTM will be held all primary, middle, high and senior secondary schools to highlight Punjab’s top ranking in the Centre’s Performance Grading Index (PGI) 2.0 for 2024-25 and NITI Aayog’s School Education Quality Report 2026 with “Prachesta Grade 1”.
In a letter issued on May 22, schools have been directed to use the PTM to hold workshops, presentations and interaction sessions, while also highlighting different education initiatives being run in government schools.
Along with routine parent teacher interaction, the day will see student felicitation ceremonies, awareness sessions and parent workshops focused on children’s learning during the summer break. Students excelling in board exams, competitive tests such as JEE and CLAT, and school programmes including English Edge and skill education initiatives will be honoured with certificates.
The department has issued elaborate instructions to schools to ensure maximum parent participation. Schools have been asked to mobilise parents through WhatsApp groups, phone calls and public announcements. School Management Committees (SMCs) will also help in outreach efforts.
Separate workshops for parents will be organised in batches. Teachers will discuss ways parents can create a healthy study environment at home during vacations and encourage children to remain connected with studies and activity-based learning.
Schools have also been directed to keep the sessions interactive instead of lecture-based and collect suggestions from parents for school improvement through feedback boxes.
Senior education officials will visit schools to monitor the programme and interact with parents. Regular classes will not be held on May 30 and students will attend the PTM along with their parents.
