Education Ministry mourns sudden death of student during national rugby tournament

THE Ministry of Education (MoE) has extended its condolences to the family of Muhammad Fauzan Mohd Sulaiman, 16, who died suddenly while competing in the 2025 National Fully Residential Schools (SBP) Rugby Sevens Championship in Ipoh, Perak.

According to a statement released by the ministry, the student collapsed during a match and was given immediate treatment by on-site medical personnel before being transferred to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

“In light of the incident, MoE has decided to cancel the remainder of the championship, which was scheduled to continue until tomorrow,” the statement said.

The ministry confirmed that the tournament will be rescheduled in due course, as a mark of respect for the late student.

“MoE will set a new date for the tournament to honour the passing of Allahyarham Muhammad Fauzan,” it said.

“The entire Ministry of Education prays that his soul may be placed among the righteous and the faithful.” - October 4, 2025
