In my devotion to Islam, when I asked about the origin of Eid al-Adha to my guru, he revealed that “The Prophet of Islam, Muhammad Peace Be Upon Him (SAW) is reported to have said, ‘It is a tradition that has come down to us from Abraham.’ The Feast of Sacrifice originates from the historic event when Prophet Abraham was commanded by Allah the Almighty (SWT) in a dream vision to sacrifice his son, Ismail. While he was in the act of sacrificing his son, Allah set the Angel Gabriel with a huge ram. Gabriel informed Abraham that his dream vision was fulfilled and instructed him to sacrifice the big ram as a ransom for his son." (Chapter #37 of the Holy Quran)

Eid-al Adha enjoys special significant because the Day of Sacrifice marks the climax of Hajj pilgrimage, 5th pillar of Islam. This annual pilgrimage to Makkah & Madinah in Saudi Arabia is an obligation only to those Muslims who are able to perform it once in our lifetime.

As a practice during Eid al-Adha festivals, Muslims working overseas or in big cities will return home to pay homage to their parents & relatives and together with their families perform the Qurbani (sacrifices) by sharing meat with the needy communities. Evidently, my former MBA student at International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), Haris Tresnjo and his Bosnian counterpart, Adnan Karabas who were in KL for series of business networkings, flew home to Sarajevo to celebrate Eid al-Adha which falls this Friday 6th of June. Entrepreneur Adnan who's the company owner of Wild Horse Ammo based in St. Louis, USA said, “We aim to pay tribute to the spirit of Eid al-Adha by spending time visiting our parents, relatives & senior members of our community in Bosnia & Hezergovina. It'll be a great blessing to pray together. We want to make sure our family always stays connected to the sacredness & historical significance." (wildhorseammo@gmail.com)
