“The victim’s body underwent a post-mortem examination at the HKL Forensic Department at noon today.

“The cause of death is still pending laboratory test results, and the case has been classified as a sudden death report,” he said in a statement today.

Hoo said that acting on information obtained, a team from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (JSJN) of the Brickfields district police headquarters raided the victim’s hotel room at about 4 am today.

The raid resulted in the arrest of eight individuals comprising two local men, two Singaporean men, and one individual each from Hong Kong, Vietnam, Indonesia and China.

“The inspection also led to the seizure of a transparent plastic packet containing substances believed to be ketamine weighing 1.5 grammes, as well as three pills suspected to be ecstasy weighing 0.7 grammes,” he said.

According to Hoo, all suspects have been remanded for three days to assist in investigations conducted under Section 12(2) and Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
