KUANTAN - An eight-year-old boy who was riding a bicycle died after a multipurpose vehicle (MPV) crashed into him while he was crossing the road at Lorong 14 Kampung Padang Jaya 2, here, yesterday.
In the 6.45pm incident, the victim, Muhammad Azzim Imni Mohd Faizal who was a student from Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Kampung Padang here was pronounced dead at the scene.
Kuantan district police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu said the 33-year-old woman driving a Toyota Innova MPV did not suffer any injuries.
He said initial investigation found that the incident occurred while the woman who was a trader was passing through the alley heading towards Jalan Kampung Padang Jaya 8 to go to Sungai Lembing.
"During the incident, the victim who was riding a bicycle was believed to have crossed the road to return home at Lorong Kampung Padang Jaya 15.
"The driver was unable to avoid the victim as he was too close," he said.
Wan Mohd Zahari said the victim died at the scene and was sent to the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA) for an autopsy.
He said the case was investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
