EIS contributors will receive enhanced benefits of up to RM25,000 from Oct 1, with higher re-employment, mobility and training allowances.

PETALING JAYA: Employment Insurance System (EIS) contributors will be entitled to enhanced benefits of up to RM25,000 when amendments to the Employment Insurance System Act come into force on Oct 1.

Human Resources (Kesuma) Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan said the increase was among several improvements introduced under the amended Act to strengthen protection for workers.

He said the changes also included higher allowances for workers who secured new employment and those who relocated for work.

“Today, we made several important announcements, including an increase in the Early Re-Employment Allowance (EBSA) from 25% to 50%.

“Meanwhile, for the mobility allowance, we will provide a one-off payment of RM1,000 to those who relocate more than 100km for work,” he told reporters after officiating the Mega iLINDUNGu: Kesuma Bersama Rakyat Festival here yesterday.

Ramanan also said the maximum training allowance would be increased from RM4,000 to RM7,000, while the daily training allowance would rise from RM10 to RM30.

On Lindung 24 Jam, Ramanan said 87% of workers had opted into the scheme, while the remaining 13% had yet to do so.

He urged those who had not opted into the scheme to consider doing so, saying it provided an important safety net for workers and their families in the event of accidents or unexpected incidents outside working hours.

“An opportunity is there. It is a small cost to protect yourself and the people you love. Take that opportunity,” he said.

Ramanan also announced RM48,000 in contributions towards the Lindung Kasih Scheme (Housewives’ Social Security Scheme) for 400 housewives in Sungai Buloh.
