In 1913, the mansion was established as the official residence for British administrators during the colonization era, and it went through various names until it was recognized as Seri Negara today. Seri Negara starts a fresh chapter following the restoration efforts led by Khazanah Nasional Berhad's Dana Warisan, aimed at safeguarding the national heritage, and it's known as Warisan KL.

Future generations will have the chance to explore, appreciate, and find inspiration in the four galleries that showcase the country's history in every detail. The spot is super scenic, right in the green heart of Kuala Lumpur, and you can catch amazing views of the three iconic buildings: KLCC, KL Tower, and Merdeka 118, all from the second floor of Seri Negara.

Recently, during my visit to the galleries, I discovered a wealth of information that is not included in school history textbooks, which is carefully preserved behind the doors of the galleries. It is essential to book a visit in advance, as the experience consists of a guided tour that succinctly covers the history in approximately one hour.

I have discovered that the room currently serving as the arts gallery on the ground level has been the site of all 15 signatures from the Malay sultanate and representatives of political parties, declaring the Federation of Malaya as a sovereign and independent nation, thereby concluding the transfer of power and ending British colonial rule.

The room on the upper floor of Seri Negara bears witness to Queen Elizabeth II's residence and her breakfast overlooking the scenic views of Kuala Lumpur. The maids who attended to Her Highness were permitted to access the room via the verandah.

It has been established that the Jawi script derives from Arabic characters that have been modified to align with Malay preferences. The Arabs designated the Malays as 'Jawah', which is the origin of the term Jawi. Prior to the emergence of Jawi, the Pallava writing system, which was employed in the ancient Malay language, had its roots in Sanskrit from India and was influenced by the arrival of Islam. This provides insight into the modern incorporation of terms like 'cha' and 'gha' in the Malay language.

Since the 1950s, the aspiration for Merdeka has been kindled among the people of Malaya, and various means have been employed to transform this hope into reality, including blood sacrifices.

In my view, during my visit to all the galleries, I encountered an overwhelming amount of information that I wished to record in my small notebook; however, I regret that I was unable to do so. This information should contribute to my personal understanding of Malaysian history beyond what is presented in textbooks and foster a sense of gratitude for how our past has facilitated greater freedom and ease in contemporary life.

The authentic narratives are situated atop this hill, encompassing the area around Masjid Jamek, the Sultan Abdul Samad building, and the Kuala Lumpur railway station, which stand resiliently as part of the national history.

Indeed, Seri Negara stands out as a national attraction that locals should not overlook when seeking to explore and reflect on historical collections. After the visit, take some time to enjoy delicious local cuisine at Semuka Cafe.
