As a management educator and HRD practitioner, I found He & She Coffee is a real significant Bumiputra-owned, Malaysian-based F&B chain known for operating the largest in-campus cafe network, serving as a social enterprise focused on empowering students. Founded on campus, it functions as a “third space” that supports underprivileged students through job creation and a Learn and Earn program, bridging academic life with practical entrepreneurship. Operating mainly within universities (e.g., UiTM, USM, MMU), it serves as a community hub for students to relax, work on assignment & social networking. (www.heandshecoffee_hq )

Founded by a dynamic entrepreneur Zulkiflee Yusof in 2019, the brand focuses on empowering students from less privileged backgrounds by hiring them as baristas and team members, providing skills and income. It aims to provide high-quality “hipster” coffee & pastries at an affordable price, often costing less than major international chains, making it accessible to the student demographic. The brand encourages a “Learn & Earn” approach, giving students hands-on mentorship in business operations & fostering a sustainable campus economy. It is emphasizing with the tagline “precious moments in a cup”.

According to the Founder & CEO Zulkiflee bin Yusof that “The branding He & She reflects a narrative of shared experiences and community growth within Malaysian university life. While ”He" and “She” represent the individual male and female students who make up the campus community, the name also tells a story of connection and mutual support. The brand identity is built on the idea that university life brings students together through late-night study sessions, library encounters, and shared coffee breaks. It represents the journey of comradeship turning into something deeper for business collaboration.

I support He & She symbolizes the transition from student life to professional careers, acting as a “hub where connections between students & leading to future business opportunities can flourish”. I trust the future of He & She is evolving from a campus-based coffee brand into a nationwide franchise.
