GENTING HIGHLANDS - Visitors travelling to Genting Highlands are now required to pay a new road charge following the implementation of a toll system at the Gohtong Jaya and Genting Sempah entry points beginning today, May 28, 2026.

According to notices placed along the road, the charges apply to vehicles entering Genting Highlands through the privately managed roads leading to the popular hilltop destination.

Under the newly introduced rates, private cars, vans and SUVs under Class 1 vehicles are charged RM5 per entry. Medium-sized lorries are charged RM15, while heavy vehicles must pay RM25. Taxi drivers are charged RM3.30 and buses RM5.

The signboards also state that the payment system is fully cashless. Drivers can make payments using Touch ‘n Go cards, RFID, MyDebit, Mastercard and Visa facilities.

In addition, vehicles using the License Plate Recognition (LPR) system, along with buses and lorries, are required to use the special left lane when entering the area.

The road charge implementation has received mixed reactions from the public. Some visitors believe the RM5 fee remains reasonable considering the maintenance costs and facilities provided along the route to Genting Highlands.

However, others expressed concern over increasing travel expenses, especially for frequent visitors, workers and business operators commuting daily to the hill resort destination.

The new charges are necessary to support road maintenance, improve traffic management and ensure better safety conditions along the privately maintained roads leading up to Genting Highlands.

The implementation of the new system is expected to affect thousands of motorists travelling to Genting Highlands every week, particularly during weekends, public holidays, school holidays and festive seasons when traffic volume is usually higher than normal.
