
As Jalandhar native Gurindervir Singh became the fastest Indian sprinter this week by creating a new national record of completing 100 m race in 10.09 seconds, it was the staff and students of his alma mater here who were among those to celebrate.
“The name of Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar, today shines in the whole world as our student has creating a new national record", said Principal Dr Rashpal Singh Sandhu. He did not just congratulate Gurindervir Singh but also organised a prayer of thanks at the gurdwara sahib of the college after his feat.
Hailing from Patial village near Jalandhar, Gurindervir Singh completed his bachelor’s degree at Lyallpur Khalsa College (Jalandhar) from 2018 to 2021. He had also taken admission in PGDCA in 2021-22. Principal Dr Sandhu said that during the prayer, Principal, heads of all departments, professors, staff members and a large number of students wished for him to make great strides at the global level in the future. Dr Sandhu congratulated Dean Sports Dr SS Bains, Gurindervir’s parents, his coach Sarabjit Singh Happy and the Department of Physical Education and Sports for their support and guidance that made him achieve this glory.
Expressing his happiness, Dr Sandhu said, “This is a very proud moment for the college. By practising in the college grounds, Gurindervir Singh has set a new record in the history of India. He has become a role model for youngsters in bringing glory to themselves, the institution and the state."
On this occasion, Balbir Kaur, president of the Governing Council of Lyallpur Khalsa College Educational Institutions, congratulated Gurindervir Singh and wished him a better future. The president also congratulated the principal and the entire staff of Department of Physical Education and Sports and said, “We are always proud of students like Gurindervir Singh, whose achievements bring glory to the college".
