MANILA, Philippines — Filipino pole vaulter Ernest John “EJ” Obiena achieved a gold medal finish at the 2026 Istaf Indoor event in Berlin, Germany on Friday (Saturday in Manila).
Obiena cleared at 5.78 meters in his only attempt at the height, having also cleared 5.60m after two attempts.
Norway’s Sondre Guttormsen also cleared the same height, but settled for silver, because of a count back.
Both jumpers failed to clear the height of 5.83m.
The Netherlands’ Menno Loon and Germany’s Bo Kanda Lita Baehre both finished as bronze medalists, clearing at 5.70m.
