- Record-breaking climber Jake Whisenant has died at the age of 30 following an accident in the Sierra Nevada.
- Records from the Tulare County Sheriff's Office confirmed that Whisenant passed away on 3 August.
- Whisenant made headlines in October 2024 by scaling the Lurking Fear route on Yosemite's El Capitan in a record two hours, 55 minutes, and 32 seconds.
- Alongside climbing partner Brant Hysell, he smashed the previous record for the 3,000-foot rock face.
- Friends and fellow climbers paid tribute to the Mammoth Lakes influencer, saying that he died doing what he loved.
