AN elderly man was killed in a violent home invasion robbery in Pekan Baru, Teluk Intan, after being believed to have been attacked with a machete in the early morning incident today.
The 69-year-old victim died at the scene after sustaining severe injuries, including slash wounds to both arms, following the assault believed to have taken place around 6am.
Hilir Perak District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Chua Kok Lian, said initial investigations found that three male suspects had entered the victim’s residence by climbing over a front wall before breaking into the house.
He said the victim’s wife was in the house compound at the time and was unaware of the presence of the three masked intruders.
“When the wife was preparing for prayers, the suspects stormed into the house and threatened the victim, who was resting inside, demanding that he hand over jewellery. The wife was also threatened,” he said in a statement today.
“The actual amount of losses is still under police investigation,” he added.
Chua confirmed that the victim’s wife did not suffer any physical injuries during the incident.
Police are now actively tracking down the three suspects, believed to be men in their 20s to 30s, and the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
Members of the public with any information relating to the incident have been urged to assist investigations by contacting the nearest police station or the Hilir Perak District Police Headquarters. - April 17, 2026
