IPOH: An elderly man died after being slashed during a gang robbery at a residence in Pekan Baru, near Teluk Intan, early today.
Hilir Perak district police chief ACP Chua Kok Lian said the 69-year-old victim suffered severe injuries after being slashed with a sharp weapon, believed to be a machete, on his right hand and left palm before being pronounced dead at the scene.
He said the preliminary investigation found that the incident is believed to have occurred around 6.02 am while the victim’s wife was preparing for prayers.
Three male suspects wearing masks are believed to have entered the house area by climbing over the front wall before storming into the residence.
“The suspects then threatened the victim and demanded jewellery,” he said in a statement today.
Chua said that all the suspects are believed to have fled immediately after the incident with the victim’s jewellery and cash, but the authorities are still investigating the amount of loss.
“The police are now actively tracking down three male suspects, aged between 20 and 30 years,” he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
Chua urged the public with information related to the incident to come forward to the nearest police station or the Teluk Intan district police headquarters or call 05-6222222.
He also advised the public to always enhance the security at their homes, including installing additional security systems and ensuring that the home environment is always safe.
