A 76-year-old hotel employee was killed by a landslide while trying to operate a generator during a power outage in Sandakan.

SANDAKAN: An elderly man was killed this morning after being struck by a landslide while trying to operate a generator during a power outage.

The 76-year-old hotel employee was partially buried by the incident, which occurred amid heavy rain.

Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station chief Jimmy Lagung said the victim was attempting to start a generator located at the back of the building when the landslide hit.

Firefighters were alerted to the incident at 6.39 am and managed to extricate the victim by 7.14 am.
