RM10,000 aid for Sandakan landslide victim’s family

Kota Kinabalu: The State Government will provide RM10,000 in cash assistance to the family of an elderly man who was killed in a landslide in Sandakan early Wednesday.

State Home Affairs and Research Secretary Datuk Awang Shahminan Sahari said Sandakan Municipal Council President Walter Kenson has been instructed to locate the victim’s next of kin to hand over the assistance as soon as possible.

The victim was identified as Agustine J. Lingam, 76, was reportedly trying to start a generator at a hotel when earth from the surrounding area collapsed and buried him in the incident.

Sandakan Fire and Rescue Chief Jimmy Lagung confirmed the incident, while the State Disaster Command Centre reported that as of 12pm today, 1,306 people from 40 villages were affected by flooding in Kota Marudu, Paitan and Pitas.
