Tuaran: An elderly man with disabilities (OKU) perished in a house fire at Kg Tagas, here, late Sunday.
The remains of wheelchair-bound Agus Ebah, 72, were found after firemen managed to bring the fire under control about 11.30pm. Tuaran Fire and Rescue Station Chief Mohd Abdul Qawie Abdul Gapar said they received a call at 10.35pm and the semi-concrete house was already engulfed in flames when a 14-member team of firefighters arrived.
He said the victim’s wife had run out of the burning home to get help from her children who lived next door as she could not carry her husband out on her own.
“When her children and in-laws tried to get into the house to get Agus out, they could not enter because the flames were too fierce,” Abdul Qawie said, adding the operation ceased at 1.34am and the victim’s remains were handed over to the police for further action.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
