Kota Kinabalu: Pakatan Harapan’s Api-Api candidate Thonny Chee vowed to address issues affecting local traders and residents, including the 50-cent toilet fee, particularly for the elderly.
During a visit to the KK Central Market, among the issues raised were insufficient parking spaces, which have led to fines for traders and clogged drains during the rainy season.
“A trader shared that she has to pay this fee each time she uses the restroom, which can add up quickly.
“If you use the toilet three times a day, that’s RM1.50. This particular woman only makes RM2 in profit per pants sold. The elderly and small traders should have free access to the toilet,” Thonny said.
He said while the issue may seem small, it has a significant impact on people’s daily lives, especially for those on tight budgets.
“These are the small things that can make a big difference,” he said.
