AN elderly driver suspected of causing a fatal hit-and-run collision in Bandar Baru Klang has been remanded for three days as police intensify investigations into the deaths of two sisters who were killed in the crash.
North Klang district police chief Assistant Commissioner S. Vijaya Rao said the remand order against the 75-year-old local man was obtained from the court earlier today to facilitate further investigation.
“Suspect remanded for three days until Tuesday and further investigations are ongoing,” he said briefly in a statement.
The suspect, who was allegedly driving a Mazda CX-5 sports utility vehicle, was arrested at approximately 11.40am yesterday at a restaurant believed to belong to him.
Police have also taken blood samples from the suspect for alcohol testing as part of the investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
The tragedy unfolded at around 7.40pm on Friday along Jalan Pekan Baru in Bandar Baru Klang when the SUV allegedly struck three pedestrians before fleeing the scene immediately after the collision.
Two local women aged 57 and 62, believed to be sisters, were pronounced dead at the scene due to severe injuries sustained in the impact.
The crash also injured a 17-year-old boy, who is understood to be the son of one of the victims.
The incident has triggered renewed public concern over reckless driving and hit-and-run offences, particularly involving fatal road accidents in urban areas.
Police are continuing efforts to determine the full circumstances surrounding the collision, including whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol or other substances at the time of the incident. - May 17, 2026
