An elderly woman narrowly escaped being crushed by a Poclain machine engaged in drain construction work in Manesar area along the Delhi-Jaipur Expressway in Gurugram. The woman was trapped between the machine and a concrete wall before the operator stopped the vehicle after passersby raised the alarm.
CCTV footage of the incident has since gone viral on social media.
The video shows drain construction work underway near the service lane along NH-48, where a Poclain machine was digging soil and loading it into a dumper. During the operation, the elderly woman, who was walking along the roadside, came close to the machine’s working area.
The operator was allegedly unaware of her presence. As the machine turned to scoop soil, the woman became trapped between the rear of the machine and a concrete wall.
Passersby and nearby shopkeepers immediately began shouting and waving at the operator to stop the machine. Responding to the warnings, the operator quickly halted the machine and reversed it.
Locals at the scene then pulled the woman to safety. She escaped without serious injury, according to eyewitnesses.
Residents alleged that heavy machinery was being operated on a busy service lane without barricades or safety personnel. They demanded that authorities ensure proper safety arrangements and security perimeters during construction work in residential and crowded areas to prevent similar incidents in future.
