
AN unemployed man was charged in the Magistrates’ Court in Ipoh today with the murder of his neighbour, an elderly woman who was discovered dead with multiple slash wounds at her residence last week.
The accused, Foon Choon Kheong, 53, indicated that he understood the charge read to him in Malay before Magistrate S. S. Evangelin, but no plea was recorded as the case is under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
According to the charge, he is accused of murdering Woo Chui Fun, 70, at a house at No. 40, Persiaran Pegoh Aman 2, Taman Desa Aman, between 4.40pm and 10pm on 4 May.
The charge is framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty or imprisonment of not less than 30 years and not more than 40 years, and, if not sentenced to death, a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane.
Deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Zulqarnain Wan Asmira appeared for the prosecution, while the accused was represented by counsel Khesminkapil Dhanoa Singh.
The court fixed 3 August for mention for the submission of the chemist’s report and post-mortem report.
Earlier reports stated that the elderly victim was found dead with multiple injuries and slash wounds to her body, head and neck, while police also recovered a parang believed to have been used in the attack at the scene.
Police further confirmed that the suspect had previously received psychiatric treatment at Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta in Tanjung Rambutan in February. - May 11, 2026
