An elderly woman was killed and three other persons were seriously injured in a road accident on the Mahilpur-Hoshiarpur road near Handowal village on Tuesday. According to information, four people from Gurdaspur district were returning home after immersing the ashes of a relative at Kiratpur Sahib.
One of the injured Satvir told the police that their Maruti Brezza car lost control and crashed into a stationary tipper truck parked on the roadside at around 3 pm.
The impact of the collision left all four occupants injured. Members of the Road Safety Force rushed to the spot and shifted the victims to Civil Hospital, Mahilpur. Doctors declared Gurmej Kaur, a resident of Shekhan village in Gurdaspur district, dead on arrival. Satvir Singh was admitted to the hospital for treatment.
The other two injured persons, Harbhajan Singh and Sarabjit Kaur, were shifted by ambulance to a private hospital in Hoshiarpur. Police from Chabbewal police station reached the spot and started further investigation.
