Elderly woman rescued from hot car after being left by granddaughter for over an hour

An elderly woman was saved by officers from a hot car after being left by her granddaughter for over an hour.

Footage shared by Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office shows a deputy trying to communicate with the woman - who could not speak English - locked inside the car.

Her granddaughter had placed the Tesla in pet-safe mode, which locks the doors whilst running the air conditioner, whilst she went inside a building to “conduct business”.

However, the cooling system had failed, and the elderly woman was unable to escape the car, where temperatures rose to above 100C.

After a combination of using online translation tools and speaking to nearby businesses, the officer was able to find the granddaughter and the elderly woman was freed.

The incident was flagged to Adult Protective Services.
