THE Election Commission (EC) has denied the authenticity of a poster circulating online that purports to list key dates for the 17th Sabah state election, calling it false and misleading.
EC Secretary Datuk Khairul Shahril Idrus confirmed that no official announcement has been made concerning the dissolution of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly or any subsequent electoral timeline.
“There has been no official proclamation of the Sabah State Assembly’s dissolution, nor has any date for the election process been determined,” he said in a statement issued on Thursday.

He emphasised that only the EC’s official platforms — including its website, press conferences, and formal statements — will be used to release accurate election-related information, including the writ of election, nomination date, and polling day.
“The dissemination of false information such as this is highly irresponsible and may cause confusion among the public,” he said.
Khairul Shahril added that legal action could be taken under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, or other relevant laws, against any individual who creates, shares or publishes unverified election information.
“The public is strongly advised to remain cautious and not be easily misled by unofficial sources. Verified updates will be provided only through authorised EC channels,” he stressed. - September 11, 2025
