
A 13-year-old boy died, and his grandmother sustained burn injuries after a fire broke out in a house in West Delhi’s Vishnu Garden area during the early hours of Wednesday, according to Delhi Fire Service (DFS).
The DFS said a call regarding a house fire was received around 2:43 am from Gali No. 9, Vishnu Garden, Khayala. Initially, one water tender and one water bowser were rushed to the spot under the supervision of Station Officer Batti Lal.
As several more calls were received between 2:50 am and 2:52 am, two additional water bowsers were deployed to control the blaze. Assistant Divisional Officer RK Sinha also reached the spot.
The fire was brought under control at 3:10 am, while the “stop” message was issued at 4:10 am.
Fire officials said the blaze erupted in an electric scooter and spread to domestic articles kept on the ground floor of the house.
Before the arrival of fire personnel, residents and PCR staff shifted two injured persons to Guru Govind Hospital in Raghubir Nagar.
Doctors at the hospital declared the 13-year-old brought dead. The 65-year-old woman, identified as Swamjeet Kaur, suffered around 35 per cent burn injuries and is undergoing treatment.
Further investigation into the cause of the fire is under way.
