Elliot Anderson is determined to build on a fresh chance at Newcastle United.

Anderson has been rewarded for his sensational form in 2022 with a new long-term contract on Tyneside. The young attacker was asked about his 19-month wait between his Premier League debut at the Emirates Stadium and his next competitive outing for the Magpies in the Carabao Cup last month.

Anderson told NUFC TV: "Yeah, it's been a long time. Probably longer than I wished for, but it gives you that motivation every day to go on the training pitch and try and makes sure it happens quickly.

"I'm still trying to build his trust for him [Eddie Howe] to start me. I've just got to work on that every time I come on the pitch and in training. I think by doing the little things he wants to see, it's helping me a lot.

When asked if his run of substitute appearances hints a start is not too far away, Anderson added: "Yeah, I'm desperate for it. I've just got to keep working and keep seeing where I can get to. Hopefully when I get the start, I'll try and stick in."
