
Kota Kinabalu: The ‘Dragon Boat Run’, a key event of the 8th FCAS International Dragon Boat Race which received overwhelming response from the public, will be officiated by State Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ellron Alfred Angin.
President of The Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS) Tan Sri T.C Goh said this was promised by the Minister during a courtesy call on him by the FCAS leadership, at Wisma MUIS here, on Thursday.
Ellron, who was briefed on the progress of the preparations, acknowledged that the said cultural sport event is a significant cultural programme for Sabah youths, especially citing its significance towards promoting close rapport and interactions among youths of different races in the State.
Goh, who is also President of The Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Huazong) noted that due to an overwhelming response to the ‘Dragon Boat Run’ when it was first introduced last year, the organiser (FCAS) has decided to continue organising it this year, which again received encouraging response from the public.

Meanwhile, Deputy President of FCAS cum Organising Chairman of the 8th FCAS International Dragon Boat Race Datuk Susan Wong besides briefing Ellron on the progress of its preparations, also invited him to attend and to do a flag-off of the ‘2nd Dragon Boat Run’, which will be held at the Likas Bay, at 4pm on June 17 (2nd day of the FCAS International Dragon Boat Race).
Also present during the courtesy call were FCAS Vice President cum deputy Organising Chairman of the 8th FCAS International Dragon Boat Race Kapitan Fung Chun Fatt, its other Vice Presidents Kapitan Lim Vun Chan, Ng Young Wah and David Chan, Treasurer-general Chen Ee Sheng, among others.
To recap, the 8th FCAS International Dragon Boat Race is being featured as a key event for the 38th National Chinese Cultural Festival which will be held in Kota Kinabalu from June 16 to 18.
Head of State Tun Juhar Mahiruddin has agreed to be the guest-of-honour and to officiate at the finale of the said event and he will be accompanied by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Haji Noor.
Meanwhile, during the courtesy call by FCAS leadership recently, Dr Huang Shifang, the Chinese Consul General in Kota Kinabalu, too had accepted the invitation of the organising committee to be the Special Guest for the event, as well as to officiate at the ‘Dumplings Booths’ competition.
