Tuaran: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Haji Noor has called on Muslim youths in Sabah to embrace the spirit of Hijrah as a way of life by strengthening their knowledge, skills, character and identity to become a capable generation that can contribute to the progress of Sabah and the country.
He said youths were an important asset who would determine the future of society, the State and the country.
“Digital technology should be used wisely for learning, skills development, entrepreneurship, knowledge sharing and improving living standards.
“At the same time, young people must avoid misusing technology, spreading fake news, cyberbullying and engaging in social problems that could jeopardise their future,” he said.
Hajiji’s speech text was delivered by appointed assemblyman Datuk Abdul Kassim Razali at the Tuaran District Maal Hijrah 1448H/2026M celebration at Dewan Sri Sulaman here recently.
Hajiji said the younger generation should also develop resilience, be courageous in facing challenges and constantly strive to improve themselves, as knowledge, good character and a strong spirit of Hijrah could help them become capable, ethical and responsible leaders.
“The Maal Hijrah should not merely be an annual event but also serve as an opportunity to reflect on the lessons from the migration of Prophet Muhammad SAW, which shaped a united, progressive, disciplined and morally upright society.
“Values such as planning, sacrifice, patience, courage and faith in Allah SWT must continue to be practised, while negative attitudes such as laziness, indiscipline, selfishness, dishonesty and easily giving up should be abandoned,” he said.
He also called on the Muslim community to make this year’s Maal Hijrah celebration a starting point to renew their resolve by moving from weakness to strength, division to unity, ignorance to knowledge, and indifference to a sense of responsibility.
Hajiji hoped the Maal Hijrah celebration would serve as a catalyst for developing a prosperous, inclusive and morally upright ummah.
He also called on Sabahans to remain united, maintain stability and reject any elements that could undermine the State’s unity and harmony.
