Bud Cauley produced a scintillating back nine on Sunday at TPC Toronto to secure his first ever PGA Tour victory.
Cauley went into the final round of the RBC Canadian Open one shot off the lead. He had to contend with a star-studded chasing pack, with the likes of Sam Burns, Matt Fitzpatrick, Viktor Hovland, and Tommy Fleetwood all setting their sights on the title on Sunday.
Ultimately, the 36-year-old was able to get across the line. Cauley took charge of the tournament with four birdies in five holes on the back nine.

There were some shaky moments over the final few holes. However, Cauley had built up enough of an advantage that he was able to make a bogey on the 17th and leave himself in an awful position off the tee on the 18th.
A tap-in for par on the 72nd hole confirmed his win. His wife and children were quick to join him on the green, and the tears were soon flowing.
Of course, Cauley’s career was in doubt for some time after he was involved in a car crash that saw him spend several years on the sidelines.

Speaking immediately after the round, Cauley spoke about what he was thinking after sealing the victory.
He also spoke about the long journey back towards the top of the game.
“Just how hard that was. So many people helped me get here and I am really thankful for that help I have gotten,” he said.
“Once I got the opportunity to start playing again I told myself I was going to do everything the right way and give myself the best chance. I put my wife through so much during those dark times and it’s just nice that a little success is kind of a thank you.”

The pivotal shot in the round perhaps came on the 12th hole, with Cauley managing to chip in for birdie.
He was asked about that particular moment.
“That was nice! I hit a lot of good shots. Made a lot of good putts. I got a great break on 16 which was nice. I am very proud of the way I kept going and continued to make birdies on the back nine. I am so happy,” he said.
Cauley is good friends with Justin Thomas. Thomas has made no secret of his desire to see Cauley win on the PGA Tour in recent years.
So it was no surprise that the two-time major champion was among those to laud his friend on social media, posting: ‘I love @BudCauley. Let’s go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!‘
There will be plenty, including Thomas, who hope that this victory opens the floodgates for Cauley.
