KUALA LUMPUR – A heartfelt embrace between Malaysia Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) Director-General Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain and Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay became one of the most emotional moments during the veteran police figure’s retirement ceremony on Sunday.
Shuhaily was seen waiting until the completion of Ayob Khan’s final ceremonial march-out at the main entrance of the Police Training Centre (Pulapol) here.
After Ayob Khan finished taking photographs with the Special Action Unit (UTK) team, Shuhaily approached him.
Without exchanging words, the former Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director embraced Ayob Khan tightly.
Both senior officers appeared visibly emotional during the moment.
Shuhaily later also embraced Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail and shook hands with Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) officers.
After the ceremony ended, Shuhaily, riding a high-powered motorcycle, escorted Ayob Khan’s convoy as it departed from Pulapol Kuala Lumpur.
The ceremony, which began at 2pm, also saw Special Branch Director Datuk Seri Ibrahim Darus appointed as acting Deputy Inspector-General of Police.
Ayob Khan, who will officially retire on Monday, has served in the Royal Malaysia Police force for nearly 35 years.
The Kota Setar-born officer from Kedah held several key positions throughout his career, including Assistant Director of Counter Terrorism, Special Branch (E8) Bukit Aman, Johor Police Chief, Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) director and Bukit Aman CID director.
