SECURITY aspects in Sabah will continue to be strengthened to ensure the people can carry out economic and social activities in a peaceful and prosperous environment, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

He said public safety assurance would not only have an impact on the environment but increase the confidence of foreign investors.

“The peace we have achieved will also enable the state development agenda which is the Hala Tuju Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) to be carried out in the best possible way,” he said at the 2023 Hari Raya Aidilfitri cookies handover ceremony to members of the state’s security forces and health workers at Menara Kinabalu, Kota Knabalu, on Apr 6.

On behalf of the State Government, Hajiji expressed gratitude for the service and sacrifice of the security forces and health workers in the state.

He said their duties and responsibilities are very challenging and the sacrifices as they never know the meaning of fatigue or fear until their own lives and safety are at stake and would always be remembered.

He also reminded people in the state to continue to exercise self-control to avoid contracting Covid-19 following the Ministry of Health detecting an increase in Covid-19 cases of 37.7 per cent for the week ending last Saturday (April 1, 2023) following the reopening of schools nationwide.

“Therefore, be careful and take care for the safety of ourselves and our families,” he stressed.

Hajiji said every year the Government holds a Hari Raya Aidilfitri cookies handover ceremony to show appreciation to security personnel on duty at the border, land, sea and air.

“Similarly, the health workers, doctors, nurses and paramedic teams who never complain regardless of fatigue and time, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic, are also not forgotten.”

This year, 35 government agencies consisting of ministries, state and federal government departments, government-related companies (GLCs), statutory bodies and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) joined forces to prepare Raya cookies to be distributed to security personnel and health workers ahead of Aidilfitri.

He hoped that more government agencies including GLCs and NGOs would come forward to donate in future.
