As Chairman of Persatuan Aeroangkasa Myaerosatu, I realized without strong engineering, airlines cannot fly legally, keep strict schedules or turn a profit. To meet safety & regulatory compliance on airworthiness, engineers make sure every plane meets legal and safety rules set by authorities like the US Federal Aviation or Administration, or European Union Aviation Safety Agency and the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) as sole regulatory body for civil aviation in Malaysia, covering technical safety, security, and economic oversight. CAAM operates under the Ministry of Transport and absorbed the Malaysian Aviation Commission (MAVCOM) on 1st August, 2025. Licensed engineers sign off on maintenance work to prove an aircraft is safe before it can take off with passengers. They review & apply mandatory safety updates, service bulletins from airplane makers. Teams handle daily, weekly & heavy checkups to spot mechanical flaws early. Good maintenance stops sudden breakdowns. This keeps flight schedules on time & keeps customers happy. They manage avionics, engines, structural frames & landing gear. Tiger Sitham is an aircraft engineer from Malaysia Singapore Airlines who joined MAS in 1971. A member of the pioneer engineering team, he participated in the setting up of the MAS Engineering Division, with assistance from Qantas. Post-MAS, he joined the Australian Aviation Consulting Group to turn around troubled airlines. Later, Jet Airways India engaged him as Engineering Advisor.
