England boss Sarina Wiegman makes major announcement on her Lionesses future

  • England women's manager Sarina Wiegman has signed a contract extension until the end of Euro 2029, keeping her in charge of the Lionesses for an additional two years beyond next summer's World Cup.
  • Under the new deal, Wiegman will also oversee the team during the 2027 Nations League campaign, which serves as a key qualification route for Team GB at the LA 2028 Olympics.
  • Wiegman's backroom staff, including assistant coaches Janneke Bijl and Arvid Smit along with goalkeeping coach Darren Ward, have also extended their contracts with the squad.
  • Since assuming the role in September 2021, the Dutchwoman has guided England to five consecutive major tournament finals, securing titles at Euro 2022 and Euro 2025.
  • The extension has been warmly welcomed by FA chief executive Mark Bullingham and Lionesses players such as Keira Walsh, who had publicly expressed her desire for Wiegman to remain in charge.
