As we gear up for the year-end vacation, it's crucial to plan a wholesome breakfast for everyone in the family.
Amidst the excitement of hotel or homestay bookings, many tend to overlook this vital start to the day. Instead of succumbing to the allure of nearby eateries serving indulgent yet unhealthy options, consider a simple, quick, and nutritious breakfast that will keep your family energized until lunchtime. Avoid the comfort food like roti canai and stir fried dishes of mee goreng and kwey teow.
My go-to healthy breakfast consists of scrambled eggs paired with essential carbohydrates. Picture the joy of enjoying this meal with your family, comfortably clad in pyjamas, away from the hustle of crowded eateries. There is no need to rush out; just relish the company of your loved ones around the breakfast table.
To elevate the nutritional value, we incorporate canned baked beans for added protein and flavour. For a touch of freshness, consider adding vegetables like sprouts or avocados, which are rich in vitamins, minerals, and healthy fats. While imported avocados may be pricier, local varieties from Sabah or alternatives like salads or sprouts with a nutritious dressing can serve as excellent substitutes.
When choosing accommodations, opt for a homestay facility with a kitchenette and cutlery, providing the flexibility to prepare these wholesome breakfasts. Experiment with different egg preparations—from scrambled to omelette or soft boiled—and, if feeling adventurous, try your hand at poached eggs.
While cooking might be challenging in a hotel room, a homestay offers the convenience of preparing nutritious meals for your family.
