Enlarged delegate system undermines real democracy - Ti Lian Ker

Former MCA Vice-President Datuk Seri Ti Lian Ker has raised concerns about the state of internal democracy in Malaysia’s political parties, warning that what is called 'democracy' often operates instead through patronage and control.

He explained that in UMNO, the number of delegates once stood at a few thousand, people who were politically literate, aware and active.

But with the enlargement of delegates to more than 30,000, the voting system lost its confidentiality and integrity.
