Rising racial tensions in the community have been making headlines recently, prompting the Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP), Steven Sim Chee Keong, to speak out.
In a recent post on his Facebook page, Sim urged that all forms of religious and racial violence and provocation be stopped immediately.

Zero tolerance for provocation
In response to recent incidents, Sim is urging the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to act quickly and firmly against all offenders, asserting that the toughest legal action is justified.
“They must face the harshest legal consequences, whether it’s stepping on the Quran, desecrating Hindu religious symbols, provoking temple demolitions, committing vandalism, or setting vehicles on fire.
“Enough is enough! Malaysians must come together on this issue; say no to provocateurs, say no to extremism,” the post read.
A shared responsibility
Sim, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bukit Mertajam, emphasised that everyone has a shared responsibility to ease racial tensions in Malaysia’s multicultural society.
“Our enemies aren’t each other, no matter our race or religion. While the world faces turmoil, Malaysians need to unite to grow our businesses and strengthen the nation’s economy for the benefit of all. Stop spreading hatred. Stop fuelling division.”
He added that the matter will be brought up and discussed at the upcoming Cabinet meeting.
