Tenom: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Melalap Division deputy chief Stanis Buandi asked the Government, especially the Ministry of Works, to this district gets adequate water supply.
“I also asked the Minister of Works (Datuk Ir Shahelmey Yahya) to intervene because this problem has been going on for a month, not to mention the previous problem where the water supply was also often cut off,” he said.
He said the people in Mukim Melalap had started pointing fingers at the Government as the District Water Department was not functioning at its maximum to overcome the problem.
“The Government had allocated billions of ringgit to overcome the problem but the situation remained the same.
“I, as the spokesperson for the affected residents, strongly request the water supply to be restored immediately to enable the community to conduct their daily lives smoothly,” he added.
He said the water supply has been cut off since March 8 this year due to rain and landslides which resulted in several pipes supplying water to most of Tenom being cut off.
According to him, repairs and replacement of broken and leaking pipes have been carried out and have been fully completed almost two weeks since the landslide and flood disaster occurred.
“However, despite the pipe repairs being completed, the treated water supply has failed to be distributed to some areas in Tenom and the most affected is Mukim Melalap, especially in Kampung Luang-Pulong, Tenom
“The Water Department and contractors have inspected every pipe but have not found any leaks or broken pipes.
“According to the Water Department, the Senagang plant is fully operational, but for a month now there has been no supply of treated water, even though the weather in this district is very good,” he said.
Stanis said those most affected were those who celebrated Hari Raya recently who have no source of clean water and only get their supply from rivers with questionable cleanliness.
