Epson Malaysia has officially announced its latest range of next-generation EcoTank ink tank printers, catering specifically to the needs of home offices, SMEs and corporate setups nationwide. Arriving shortly after Epson hit the global milestone of 100 million EcoTank units sold, this updated family focuses on faster daily output, reduced desk space requirements and lower long-term operating costs.

The local launch aligns with shifting consumer preferences highlighted in recent industry market insights from IDC. In Malaysia, ink tank models have steadily captured market share, now standing tied with traditional cartridge printers at 38% total market share as local buyers move away from expensive cartridge refills and higher-power laser machines.

Upgraded design, higher yields and extra coverage

The newly designed EcoTank units feature fully integrated ink reservoirs built directly into the main chassis, shrinking the printer’s overall physical footprint by up to 20% compared to older iterations. On the performance front, Epson’s proprietary Heat-Free technology enables quick print initiation while drawing significantly less power than comparable laser alternatives.

To keep running costs low, these models utilize Epson 003 CMYK 65ml dye ink bottles, capable of producing up to 4,700 monochrome pages and 7,500 color pages on a single full refill set. The refill mechanism incorporates keyed, color-coded nozzles to prevent misfills, while maintenance is made straightforward with a user-replaceable maintenance box. Furthermore, Epson Malaysia is backing this entire new lineup with a comprehensive 5-year warranty or up to 50,000 pages printed.

Model variations for different workflows

Heading the local range is the flagship Epson EcoTank L5390, a 4-in-1 workspace workhorse designed for busier office environments. It packs printing, scanning, copying and fax functions into one machine, complete with an Automatic Document Feeder and print speeds reaching 11 ipm in black and 6 ipm in color. It comes fully equipped with wireless connectivity choices including Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, Apple AirPrint and integration with the Epson Smart Panel app.

For smaller setups that do not require fax capabilities, the Epson EcoTank L3350 offers a balanced 3-in-1 alternative with full wireless and smart app support. Buyers seeking the same 3-in-1 print performance on a standard wired setup can choose the Epson EcoTank L3310, which relies on a direct USB link. Finally, the Epson EcoTank L1310 caters to those who only need basic, high-volume document printing without extra scanning or copying hardware.

Epson’s take on AI beyond hardware

Addressing the broader landscape of technology updates and artificial intelligence during the event, Alvin Tan, Managing Director of Epson Malaysia, emphasized that Epson’s strategy focuses on overall solution delivery rather than selling standalone hardware:

“Definitely from the hardware aspect we have to do so, and also software. So we’re not talking about selling just hardware. In fact, solution selling is what we are talking about. When we do technology updates, we don’t call them product updates anymore; we call them solution workshops.”

“On the other aspect of service, that’s another area where we definitely need it for our knowledge base, getting all the information put into place and then seeing how a single error code can help the service partner detect where the fault is and make a quick repair. Those are the AI developments we have seen, and of course, a huge team of engineers is actively working on it.”

Rather than treating AI purely as a front-end feature for printer hardware, Epson is leveraging AI behind the scenes to optimize service ecosystems, refine automated backend diagnostics and streamline maintenance workflows for enterprise and SME clients.
