THE Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has approved Citicore Renewable Energy Corp.’s application to build more point-to-point transmission facilities for two solar power projects in Quezon and Batangas.
In separate decisions, the regulator said it approved Citicore Solar Quezon Inc.’s authority to build transmission facilities to connect its 70.50-megawatt alternating current (MWac) Pagbilao 1 solar project to the national grid via a 230-kilovolt (kV) National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) substation.
Another unit, Tuy Solar Power Corp., was authorized to develop and own facilities to connect the 364.32-MWac Magahis solar power plant in Batangas to the grid via NGCP’s 23-kV Tuy Station.
The transmission facilities of the Pagbilao project have a total approved cost of P462 million while that for Magahis is P721.5 million.
Tuy Solar Power was declared to be in compliance with ERC guidelines as construction of the Magahis transmission facilities had yet to start.
However, the ERC found that construction of the Pagbilao project’s transmission facilities were already completed in October 2025 before approval was given.
The ERC reiterated that despite its approval of Citicore Solar’s application, all generation companies and grid users intending to undertake similar projects must strictly obtain prior authority before proceeding with development and construction.
It said the requirement was aimed at ensuring coordinated system planning, maintaining the integrity and security of the overall electricity grid and preventing the unchecked increase of unauthorized facilities that could compromise the grid’s reliability.
Shares of Citicore Renewable closed unchanged at P4.47 each on Friday.
