THE Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) on Sunday said it had approved RE Resources Inc.’s application to connect its solar project to the electricity grid.

The San Manuel solar project in Pangasinan involves point-to-point transmission facilities connecting 69.90 megawatt-alternating current (MWac) of output to a 69-kilovolt (kV) substation of National Grid Corp. of the Philippines. The project includes a 75-megavolt-amperes (MVA), 69-kV substation and a 7-kilometer 69 kV double circuit transmission line.

Total project cost is P325.48 million, the ERC said.

However, the agency noted that construction started on Jan. 27 and is about 90-percent completed, based on ocular inspection.

Despite its approval, the ERC said that all power generation companies and grid users intending to undertake similar projects must strictly obtain authorization before proceeding with development and construction.

This is to ensure coordinated system planning and maintaining the integrity and security of the overall electricity grid, while preventing the unchecked increase of unauthorized facilities that may compromise system reliability, the ERC emphasized.
