THE Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has approved the construction of point-to-point transmission facilities that will connect two privately funded renewable energy projects to the national grid.
AboitizPower affiliate Wind Renewable Energy Corp. is now authorized to develop its own transmission resources for its 64-megawatt (MW) Presentacion 2 wind power project in Camarines Sur.
The project will connect to the national grid through the Presentacion-Lagonoy 69-kilovolt (kV) transmission line of Camarines Sur IV Electric Cooperative (Casureco IV).
Its assets include a 60-megavolt-ampere (MVA), 34.5-kV take-off substation with protection and telecommunications equipment; a 1.5-km, single-circuit 69-kV transmission line; and a 69-kV switchyard.
Estimated cost is P173.2 million.
Another Aboitiz unit, North Luzon Green Power, will build its own transmission facilities for its 187-megawatt-peak (MWp) Talingaan-Laoag solar project and 276.954-megawatt-hour (MWh) battery energy storage system (BESS) in Ilocos.
The projects will connect to the national grid through the 230-kV Laoag substation of the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP).
Their assets include 95-MVA and 85-MVA, 230/34.5-kV take-off substations equipped with switchyards, protection, metering and telecommunications equipment and static VAR generators.
The projects will also have a 6.5-km, double-circuit 230-kV transmission line and bay expansion at NGCP’s 230-kV Laoag substation.
Estimated cost is P830.3 million.
Construction of all projects has not begun, in compliance with regulations requiring developers to secure regulatory approval before starting work.
The ERC reminded generation companies and other grid users planning similar facilities to obtain prior authorization before construction to ensure coordinated system planning and protect the reliability and security of the power grid.
